John P. O’Connor, the genealogist and family historian who works at the Connecticut Valley Historical Museum Genealogy Library at the Quadrangle in Springfield, MA (not to be confused with the myriad of John O’Connors living in the surrounding areas), has written a good article on genealogy and common (or uncommon as it were) names for The Republican.

New Magazine - Internet Genealogy

James M. Beidler writes in the Lebanon Daily News (PA), about a new genealogy magazine, Internet Genealogy, from Halvor Moorshead - publisher of the Family Chronicle magazine. The magazine bills itself as Tracing Your Ancestors Using Online Resources. The first issue - the April/May 2006 issue, will hit the newstands in North America at the end of February.

Would-be Kilt Wearer Wants to Change Dress Code

Just over a month ago, a student was removed from a high school dance for wearing a kilt . The student was Nathan Warmack and he is a student at Jackson High School (Missouri). He was trying to show pride for his Scottish heritage, but the principal said it was a distraction.

Nathan hopes to change that - the Kansas City Star/AP is running a story by Betsy Taylor, detailing the youth’s attempt at getting the dress code changed.

Raising Money Through Publishing Genealogy Books

The Tyler Morning Telegraph (TX) has news of a unique way to help raise money for the Van Zandt Library of Genealogy and Local History (located in Canton). They are publishing a softcover book with nearly 300 pages of material concerning Civil War veterans who lived in Van Zandt county.

The Sunday Mail (sundaymail.co.uk) has news of the actor Hugh Grant’s genealogy. According to the article, it was suprising for genealogist Anthony Adolph to discover that Grant (full name: Hugh John Mungo Grant) had Scottish ancestry.
